Opponents who fear a massive housing development will leave Thundersley gridlocked have called for a public meeting to discuss its implications.

Residents have bombarded Castle Point Council with letters and petitions after property developers Martin Dawn plc applied to build 310 homes on land at the Chase, Thundersley.

Eric Fenwick, 50, a publicity consultant of Hackamore, Thundersley, said: "I would like to see an open meeting for residents with someone from the council's planning department explaining the situation.

"Traffic is already choc-a-bloc in the area every morning and night, and this development would bring even more cars.

"Enough is enough, there's just not the infastructure in place.

"They cannot do this, 310 new homes is bigger than a village."
