This was a gritty victory with a very attractive reward for Ipswich Town.

In terms of entertainment, the match itself was never a classic. In fact it was instantly forgettable.

But, after picking up three more precious points, not to mention their latest clean sheet, Town moved level on points with leaders Wigan at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship.

And that alone made it a day to remember.

The Latics' 1-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers was enough to help Joe Royle's side move within a whisker of top spot.

After a sloppy first half punctuated by stoppages, Town gave the game exactly what it needed six minutes after the break - a goal.

Leeds' Clarke Carlisle in his attempt to clear a through ball instead tackled fellow defender Gary Kelly, allowing Shefki Kuqi the chance to test goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.

He managed to charge down the shot, but it fell invitingly for the lurking Darren Bent.
