The leader of the Conservative Party has paid tribute to the Evening Gazette's Community Stadium Now campaign.
Michale Howards adds his name to the stadium campaign.
Michael Howard showed his commitment by signing the petition, adding his voice to the thousands of others calling for a community stadium in Colchester.
Mr Howard, who was in Essex to push the Conservatives' latest plan for university education, said the community stadium was a "sound and very good idea".
Speaking outside Essex University, Mr Howard praised the efforts to get the community stadium built.
Mr Howard said: "Having the facility is important for the people of Colchester. It is also important for football."
Mr Howard, a lifelong Liverpool fan, also supports Swansea.
"I want to watch Swansea beat Colchester at the new stadium," he declared.
Mr Howard also visited Witham and Clacton.
