A new rail station at Shoebury to serve housing developments on the New Ranges could be a reality within the next ten years.

Route director of c2c Leila Francis revealed the idea was being actively pursued by the train company.

As part of the Thames Gateway project, 1,500 homes are planned on the former Ministry of Defence land by the Government by 2021.

Southend Council leader Howard Briggs said before any development could take place the infrastructure would have to be in place and a new railway station was an essential part of it.
