Southend United skipper Kevin Maher slammed the Shrimpers' sloppy defending after a disappointing 3-0 reverse against Luton Town at Roots Hall on Friday evening.
The high flying Hatters, who currently lead League One, hit home a trio of early strikes as Steve Tilson's side crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle in a one sided encounter.
And Maher said he was angered by the Shrimpers' collapse in front of Blues' biggest home crowd - 6,683 supporters - of the season so far.
"It was very disappointing," said the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee.
"We went into the game with high hopes of causing an upset because we have a great home record at the moment.
"Yet when you give goals away like we did you give yourself a mountain to climb and, when it's against a very good team like Luton, you're not going to win."
