Colchester honoured the fallen heroes of war during a Remembrance Day parade and service.
Homage - war veterans march along Colchester High Street
Veterans, soldiers and dignitaries marched from the town hall to the town's war memorial, watched by dozens of onlookers who lined High Street.
At 11am, rifle fire marked the start of a two-minute silence, which was observed by a large crowd of people of all ages, who had gathered to join in the service.
After a second gunshot ended the silence, wreaths of poppies were laid on the war memorial.
Some who gathered for the service felt it had extra poignancy because of the conflict in Iraq. Among the flowers left on the war memorial were tributes to Black Watch and SAS soldiers.
John Bouckley, Colchester's Mayor, thanked everyone for turning up in such large numbers to the service.
