Basildon has the second highest number of illegal traveller camps in England, it was revealed today.
With its 145 council-run and privately-owned legal sites and 174 illegal plots, the area has the most traveller sites than any other district in Essex.
We have the fourth highest number of legal traveller homes in the whole of the East of England region, as well as the sixth highest number of legal plots nationwide.
The latest levels are outlined in a report released by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), which details the number of traveller caravans for each local authority area carried out on July 19 this year.
