Plans for a skateboard park at Lawford have suffered a setback.
Youngsters throughout the Manningtree area have been pressing for skateboarding facilities and Lawford Parish Council was considering a site at the Waldegrave Way play area.
But at yesterday's meeting of the council, David Elkin said he had learned of a skatepark at Kingsbridge in Devon having to be removed.
Mr Elkin said he understood there had been complaints of noise and anti-social behaviour and although thousands of pounds were spent on an enclosure, specially made to prevent noise, the issue was taken up by the Department of the Environment and the park eventually removed.
"I was in favour of a skatepark but now I wonder if we have a suitable site in Lawford," said Mr Elkin.
But Ken Edwards felt they were letting the youngsters down: "We are not talking about a massive skateboard park and there's not a huge number of children wanting to skateboard," said Mr Edwards.
