Shoebury golf professional Richard McEvoy went into today's sixth and final round of the European Tour qualifying school event with his hopes of retaining his card allowing him to play regularly among the game's elite hanging by a thread.
McEvoy, the former Thorpe Hall Walker Cup international amateur, had a solid level par 72 to be on nine over 369 in Spain after 90 holes.
This left him joint 55th in the field and knowing that he badly needed his first sub par round of the tournament if he was to move into the top 35 who will automatically get full cards.
Having made the top 75 and ties cut from a 168 field at the 72-hole stage, McEvoy knows that he's already done enough to earn the right to play in some main European Tour events next term and on the secondary Challenge Tour.
But, having won the qualifying school final last year and earned 88,000 plus euros in his first season, he is desperate to hang onto his full card.
