A mother has claimed police officers left her injured ten-year-old daughter in the street.

Jane Hammond said her daughter Georgina injured her face falling off her bike. She claimed two officers stopped in a van but did not get out to check how her daughter was.

She said they left after the youngster, who goes to Alton Park Junior School, in Clacton, told them she just wanted to get home. She was helped home after the accident by an eight-year-old boy.

Mrs Hammond made an official complaint about the two policemen. She is not happy with the response she received and is going to take the matter up with MP Ivan Henderson.

Mrs Hammond, of Jackson Road, Clacton, said: "At the time of the accident, Georgina had blood all over her face and they had to take X-rays to see if she had broken her eye socket," she added.

"I find it hard to believe the two officers could not see she was badly hurt and needed medical attention. I would have thought they would have looked after an injured person in the street."

An Essex Police spokesman said the complaint was followed up by the professional standards department.

"The officers were spoken to and gave a different account of events," he said. "They were also spoken to and Mrs Hammond was informed."
