Great Wakering Rovers may still be looking for their first home win in Southern League Division One - but teenager Sam Lake looks set to make a big splash at the village club.
Youth star Lake first came to first team prominence with a tremendous goal in a pre-season friendly and manager Tony Cross has rewarded him with appearances on the first team bench in recent games.
Lake was brought on at the interval of last night's 1-1 draw with Sittingbourne and grabbed Wakering's equaliser, showing maturity far beyond his years to crack the ball past the Kent side's goalkeeper Pat Mullin after 73 minutes.
It was no less than Rovers deserved for a spirited second-half comeback after being comprehensively second best to their visitors, seeking their fourth successive league win, in the opening 45 minutes.
