An elderly couple were treated by paramedics following a "traumatic ordeal".
Police said a burglar was found by the couple in their home in Margaret Road, Colchester, at 8pm yesterday. An ambulance crew were called to the scene after the raider escaped through the front door.
It is believed he sneaked into the home through an upstairs window. Acting Det Sgt Mike Sheeran said it is not yet known what was taken.
