Gritty Harwich were just ten minutes away from inflicting on champions Sudbury their first Ridgeons League premier division defeat of the season.
The Shrimpers were 1-0 up through Tom English's 19th goal of the season when veteran Steve Day struck in the 80th minute following sustained pressure from the Suffolk giants.
And a last-gasp penalty from Neil Calver sealed the league leaders a dramatic victory in stoppage-time.
Harwich youngster Darren Hewitt, who had been a tower of strength in their defence all evening, brought Lee Owen down in the box, and in the heated melee that followed, Shrimpers' keeper and captain Nathan Munson was sent-off for dissent.
Teenager Michael Lyness switched from striker to stand-in keeper, but had no chance of saving Calver's perfectly-placed spot-kick.
