Basildon angler Les Lavotha weighed in a 22lb 15oz 8dr mixed haul to claim victory with 2lb to spare at the second of Dave Hemmings' Gloucester Park Opens.
Lavotha fished the middle section of the new town venue's cockle bank where he used a quivertip and maggot bait to land five carp, a skimmer bream, and a handful of roach.
Following the overnight frost he didn't get his first carp until an hour into the match, with the others following at intervals throughout the next five hours.
Second place went to Kevin Williams who weighed in 20lb 13oz 8dr of tench, crucians, skimmer bream and carp.
He started the match fishing a quivertip, but with less than three hours to go he had only taken a small carp and a handful of silver fish.
A switch to the pole produced a stream of tench, crucians, roach and skimmers, with most of the fish falling to pellet baits.
A tie for third place saw both Hemmings and Neil Payne weighing in 19lb 4oz.
