A boy from Braintree has received a letter from the Prime Minister after he drew him a picture.

James Cook and dad Graham

James Cook, eight, penned a drawing of the Houses of Parliament before he went to visit the famous building.

The youngster had wanted to visit Big Ben and take a look around inside, so his dad Graham got in touch with Braintree MP Alan Hurst.

Mr Cook, 40, of Notley Road, said: "He wanted to go up to Big Ben, so I rang Alan Hurst and he said he wouldn't be able to go up there, because you have to be 12.

"He then asked if he would like to go to the Houses of Parliament instead. We were shown around by Mr Hurst's secretary, Graham Whitham and James gave the drawing to him and asked if he would give it to Tony Blair."

Mr Cook said: "It was a nice surprise and he did actually bother to write to him, which is something good in itself."
