Colchester put their early season poor form behind them as they grabbed their first win of the season.
Playing on the home team's artificial turf, the visitors took a few minutes to adjust to an unfamiliar surface but they soon took hold of the game.
With early attacks pressurising the home defence, Colchester made inroads with a few missed chances before forward Nick Town picked up the ball and despatched a reverse-stick shot.
The visitors, buoyed by their early strike, forced forward and won a penalty corner.
The first strike was well saved by the keeper but Rohan Khaira was on hand to lift the ball over him to score Colchester's second.
Unfortunately Colchester's second-half performance was not up to the standard of the first but with some good chances going begging and the score remained 2-0 to the visitors.
Colchester entertain Ipswich on tomorrow at the Garrison pitch for a 2pm start.
