Colchester United manager Phil Parkinson is not losing any sleep over fixture congestion this season.

Last term the U's played 61 League and cup games - one of the highest tallies for any club in the country - as they embarked on impressive runs in the LDV Trophy and FA Cup, on top of their Division Two campaign.

The lengthy run stretched Parkinson's resources to the limit and the spectre of fixture congestion loomed once again after the U's 1-1 draw against Mansfield in the FA Cup on Saturday meant they would face a midweek replay.

But Parkinson is not concerned that this year will turn out like last season and felt the prestige of the FA Cup meant his players would rise to the occasion of the extra demands on them.

"We are out of the LDV this year and that was the main draw on us last season, and the FA Cup is the biggest competition in the world," he said.

He added his small squad of players, made smaller by the recent departures of loanees Neil Danns and Ben May, injuries to Kem Izzet and Karl Duguid and a three-match suspension of Wayne Brown, would respond to the situations put before them.
