Emergency resurfacing works on the A13 near Pitsea Flyover will begin on Monday - just days after it reopened to traffic.
The shock news has been blamed by highways chiefs on the discovery of a "serious deterioration" in the carriageway caused while the flyover was being repaired.
The part of the road which needs urgent repairs was used top take tens of thousands more vehicles during the bridge renovation which has now ended.
A 300-metre stretch of the road on the Southend-bound carriageway the London side of the flyover needs to be treated or lives would be at risk, it was revealed today.
