THURROCK manager Colin McBride's post match fury after his team's 1-0 defeat by Oldham on Sunday was reserved for controversial television pundit Gordon Strachan.

The Ship Lane boss felt that Strachan's personal comments about his weight had been below the belt.

McBride told reporters that -- apart from the money TV coverage brought in -- he did not like being the focus of televised matches.

McBride agreed to some filming before the game. But the film-makers' tight schedule meant that this was done straight after his oil refinery shift, and on the day the manager was still recovering from a minor chemicals spill.

"I didn't like the cameras being here. I find it condescending. They criticise you, they take cheap shots. It's nothing to do with football. Apart from the money, this didn't do it for me," said McBride.

Flame-haired Strahan had taken what he believed was a cheap shot at his weight and called him 'dishevelled' in a match preview.

"Gordon Strachan called me fat, and if I have a go back, he will just say that he was joking. I can always go on a diet, but what's Gordon going to do about his hair and his accent? I'm not dishevelled. I've got a wardrobe full of Hugo Boss suits, just like everyone else.

"I just think this was far too personal."

McBride said that he thought that his boys were capable of much better on the day -- but they failed to perform, saying: "People need to remember that there are three league between us. It was frustrating because they were there to be taken. We were lacking in confidence."
