A mortgage broker has become the king of new businesses this year.

Kings Mortgages, based in New Street, Braintree, has seen business go from strength to strength since it was formed in April by entrepreneur Stephen King, from Bocking.

Mr King decided to put his nine years of service in the financial services industry to good use by setting up on his own.

He attended a "planning your business" course run by Braintree Business Centre, which helped him learn more about employment law and the procedures involved in taking on more staff.

The business has subsequently taken on four additional employees who sell more than 5,000 different financial products to customers.

Although Kings has connections to every major mortgage lender, Mr King believes the company offers a more personal service to local people, advising on mortgages and associated insurance issues.

He said: "I am very pleased with the way the business is going and the support and advice I received really helped in the setting up of my business."

The business also nominates a charity each quarter of the year with good causes like Cancer Research and the NSPCC benefitting from donations.
