Youngsters enjoyed the chance to learn about the responsibilities of owning a pet during a special programme at their school.
Staff at Copford Primary School, in School Road, organised the pet proficiency lessons, in which several volunteers brought in their dogs.
The programme, which is for seven to 11-year-olds, involves lessons on feeding, handling, hygiene and choosing a pet.
