A mid-Essex nightclub looks set to close in the new year.
Luminar Leisure confirmed it is in the process of selling Zeus in Chelmsford to local developer Berkeley Street Properties - because it does not fit in with the company brand.
Berkeley, based in Broomfield Road, Chelmsford, wants to demolish the buildings and develop a new complex.
Planning permission was granted yesterday by Chelmsford Borough Council.
Claire de Silva, public relations manager for Luminar Leisure, which also owns the Hippodrome in Colchester, said: "The popular Zeus has long been a favourite venue for many of our customers around the Chelmsford area. However, it no longer fits in with Luminar Leisure's plans for the branded core estate.
"More details will follow to confirm. It is expected that if the legal processes are completed, the venue will shut sometime in the new year."
