A mother whose son was left brain damaged following a car crash will be speaking to teenagers tomorrow about the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
Heather Thompson, 49, and her husband David, 53, of Colchester, are backing an Essex Police campaign urging car users to belt up.
Their 23-year-old son Aidan was left brain damaged after the car he was travelling in struck a tree in Colchester in May 2001.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the then 19-year-old had failed to wear his seatbelt. He suffered serious brain injuries which have left him mentally disabled.
Mr and Mrs Thompson, helped launch Essex Police's awareness and enforcement campaign last week, alongside Insp Steve Brewer of Stanway road policing unit.
Now Mrs Thompson will be highlighting the dangers of failing to wear a seatbelt to a group of young people in Colchester, in the hope they are not left in the same state as her son.
The talk will take place at the Education and Youth Services building, in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester.
