No more lights! That's the plea from residents near Clacton Leisure Centre, who claim their lives are being made a misery.

People with homes in Oxford Road, Berkeley Road and Tewkesbury Road say they cannot sleep at night because of the floodlights surrounding the synthetic pitch and tennis courts.

Tendring councillors heard that the lights are sometimes left on until 2am or even all through the night by mistake.

Linda Jervis, who spoke for a number of residents, said people's lives were seriously affected by the problem.

She spoke against plans for another six floodlights being put up around the new skatepark next to the leisure centre to cut down on vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

An application had been made by the council's leisure services department, but members of the planning committee decided the residents' concerns were real.

Last night they decided to make a site visit to see the problems for themselves before making a decision over the proposed ten metre high structures.
