A controversial proposal to extend one of Maldon's most historic buildings could still go ahead.
Plans to build a £300,000 annexe on the front of All Saints' Church were thrown out by Maldon District Council last month, but an appeal is about to be lodged by the church against the decision.
The 60m squared meeting room with a pyramid roof would have been built on part of the graveyard next to the church in High Street. The building would have been built on a special raft base so the graves beneath were not disturbed.
But this was met with widespread disapproval from the local community and the council's planning committee members, who rejected the proposal despite their officers' advice it should be allowed.
