Bus bosses were due to meet police today to work out what changes to services will be needed during the Queen's visit to Colchester.
High Street, Head Street and North Hill will all be shut to traffic when Her Majesty comes to town next Thursday.
Colchester Council has granted Essex Police an 18-hour road closure order for the visit, starting at midnight - more than eight hours before the royal party is due to arrive at 12.20pm.
But Ch Insp Iain Logan told the Gazette today the order would not be enforced until shortly before the royal party arrived.
