The widow of a Colchester-based Red Cap murdered in Iraq has called for action by the Army.

Gemma Long's plea came the day after an Army board of inquiry found there was no conclusive evidence that the men's deaths could have been prevented.

Mrs Long's husband, Paul, was one of six Colchester-based Royal Military Police (RMP) killed by a mob who surrounded a police station in the town of Al Majarr al Kabir in Iraq last year.

Mrs Long, 23, of Colchester, said she wanted the attackers brought to justice for the murders.

"I would like some justice for them."

She asked: "Why did they send six people out with no ammunition, no grenades or anything? They were sending them in with nothing."

The board of inquiry found RMP patrols were routinely sent out without proper allocations of ammunition.

Mrs Long said she wanted important lessons learned so that other families do not have to go through the loss she and the other families have.
