A cutback in funding could lead to staff redundancies at a Mistley-based charity.
The Acorn Trust has also warned any reduction in the grant it receives from Essex County Council will mean a decrease in the services it currently provides.
The problem does not affect the residents of Acorn Village but will hit about 18 people living outside the Clacton Road home for adults with learning difficulties.
Acorn Village opened at Mistley Hall in 1976, and in recent years the trust has bought several houses in the Manningtree area.
Derek Robinson, Essex County Council cabinet member for community care, stressed no-one would be put at risk as a result of the situation.
