Residents in Witham will be asked within days what their preferred location for a new community hall is.

More than 1,300 householders on the Templars estate are due to be sent questionnaires and letters asking them to make a choice and give their views.

A spokesman for Braintree Council said: "Residents will be asked whether they feel the new centre should be located on the site of the present Rickstones Pavilion or to the south.

"As the crow flies, the southern location is due to be 500 metres away."

Paula Scott, administration manager, of Treetops Pre-School Playgroup, based at the Forest Road community hall, wrote a letter to Braintree Council highlighting her concerns about the future of the group.

The council spokesman said: "Treetops will be catered for at the new Rickstones centre and it is hoped they will have dedicated use of the hall so they can continue to work with younger children."
