A health trust is to pick up a £100,000 cash windfall for its efforts to improve services to accident and emergency patients, the Gazette can reveal.

Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust is to scoop the money as a performance bonus.

It has ensured that at least 96 per cent of patients were admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours of arrival at its accident and emergency department at Colchester General Hospital during July to September.

The department is to pick up the money after being successful in the third stage of an incentive scheme run by the Government.

The new capital will be handed over via the stategic health authority.
