Getting out of jail has been a recurring theme for Ipswich Town during December.
This match proved a bridge too far, though, as they slumped to only their fourth defeat of the season yet still kept top spot in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Joe Royle's side fought back from behind at Crewe and Queens Park Rangers to net a draw and victory respectively. Then, last Tuesday, they conceded the first goal before toppling previous leaders Wigan.
This time, however, there was to be no heroic repeat, despite a comeback looking on the cards when Shefki Kuqi pounced to make it 2-1.
Town fans, in light of this month's roller-coaster events, must have been fired up for another dramatic escape.
But it wasn't to be and the hosts struck again late on to seal what, on paper at least, was a comprehensive victory.
It was a huge blow, although very much softened by the fact Wigan and Sunderland both lost. Reading were the only side in the top four to gain maximum points.
