World number one Colin Lloyd is through to the last 16 of the 2005 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The Witham darts player progressed after a 4-1 defeat of Canadian qualifier John Verwey.

Wayne Mardle survived a huge scare against Mark Walsh before booking his place.

Mardle, a semi-finalist at the Circus Tavern 12 months ago, looked set to continue his run of poor form in recent televised tournaments when he went 2-0 down to Walsh.

Even after levelling matters, Mardle was far from happy with his game and allowed Walsh back in during the fifth set after he missed nine darts at a double.

But the crowd favourite from Dagenham managed to win the set 3-2 before taking the next three legs unanswered to set up a fourth round tie with Paul Williams tomorrow.

Roland Scholten is also through after beating Jamie Harvey, while former World Champion John Part won the all-Canadian clash against Gerry Convery, but there was disappointment for Alan Warriner.

The World Grand Prix finalist from only two months ago suffered a 4-1 defeat to fellow Lancastrian Paul Williams only hours after having to send his fiancee Brenda back to the north-west to collect his darts, after travelling to Purfleet without them on Monday night.

Mark Dudbridge emerged victorious from a titanic struggle against Richie Burnett to book his place in round four.

Denis Ovens joined them in the last 16 following a crushing 4-1 win to bring qualifier Mark Holden's dream of glory to an end.
