Developers are stepping up their battle to demolish one of Frinton's last surviving hotels and replace it with luxury flats.

Under scrutiny - the Glencoe Hotel, Frinton, which a firm wants to demolish to make way for flats. (29551-2)

Sexton Construction of Colchester was refused planning permission for a scheme for the Glencoe in Harold Road earlier this year.

Now the firm has lodged an appeal against Tendring Council's decision - and hopes a Government inspector will give it the green light to go ahead with the plans.

It wants to knock down the Glencoe and build eight apartments on the site.

Frinton-based Haven Development and Property previously put in a project for ten flats but that was also rejected.

The move was opposed by both Frinton and Walton Town Council and Frinton Residents' Association.

People living nearby feared the new development would totally overshadow their homes and there was also concern for a 100-year-old oak tree in the grounds.

Sexton Construction then bought the site and reduced the number of units to eight.
