Traders in Clacton fear Government plans to relax drinking laws could lead to greater problems in the town centre.

They are concerned it would put increased pressure on police, who will need to divert resources to deal with the situation.

Pierre Oxley, chairman of Clacton Chamber of Trade, said he is meeting with officers at the end of the month and would discuss the issue.

He also hoped the chamber would be able to speak with pubs and clubs about their intentions for when continental-style licensing laws are introduced.

Mr Oxley said he hoped most pubs and clubs would choose not to open around the clock, certainly in the winter.
