Residents in Jaywick are demanding police action following a spate of arson attacks.

People living in the seaside village fear lives are being put at risk and want to see police officers on their streets after dark.

They have called for an urgent meeting with Clacton police to discuss the issue and see what can be done to improve the current level of patrols.

A bungalow was destroyed by fire at the weekend, just a matter of weeks after the same thing happened to a property next door.

Flames were spotted pouring out of the home in Brookland Gardens and crews spent more than an hour tackling the blaze.

Also at the weekend a car, caravan and house were badly damaged in a separate blaze in the Brooklands area.

Roy Smith, of the Jaywick Action Group, said residents were becoming increasingly anxious before the latest series of fires.

"There have been a number of arsons over the past few months and this was just the final straw," he said.

Insp Richard Day said: "Jaywick is already getting a special level of service from us but we are happy to consider all requests to discuss matters of this nature."
