Kent Blaxill Border League officials have admitted defeat in their bid to hold on to many of their leading clubs.

Second strings from the likes of Tiptree United, Stanway Rovers and Clacton Town will quit the Border set-up to be part of a new Ridgeons Reserve League at the start of next season.

The Border League will then be forced to restructure to cope with the loss of 17 teams and is poised to reduce itself from four divisions to three.

Speaking after the overwhelming vote of its leading reserve teams to jump ship, Border League chairman Brian Tatum said: "It's obviously disappointing because we'll be losing some quality clubs with some quality facilities.

"The league will take time to recover, but we look forward to building it back up again."
