SOUTHEND United supremo Ron Martin is set to fight FIFA's decision to impose a transfer window in the lower leagues from the start of next season.

The game's governing body is keen to enforce the agreement - which has been used in the Premiership for the past three seasons.

But Martin is against the idea in case it sparks a cash crisis for lower division clubs.

"I feel very strongly about this matter because it will have a fundamental adverse affect on club's finances in League Two," he said.

"And in my view it will also reduce the supporters' interests. We want more flexibility and if the chairman in our league want me to lead a campaign I certainly will."

If enforced, the transfer window will only allow a player to switch clubs before the end of the August and during January. Players out of contract would not be affected.

But Martin does not agree with FIFA's reasons for the decisions.

"There have two points they've raised and I would question both of them," he said.

"They think it would ensure stability of contracts and stop bigger clubs dominating the market, but I'm not so sure.

"I think this could even end up in the courts. If that was to happen I think we could be successful as well because this transfer window would be a restraint of trading and would also be against UK company laws."
