A friend who murderer Steven Dicker calls "mum" has spoken of his loving side.

Killer - Steven Dicker, who began a life sentence yesterday for the murder of his mother Jean Dicker 29619-3

The woman says he deserves to be punished for bludgeoning his real mother Jean Dicker, to death, but he is not an evil killer.

The Clacton woman, who did not want to be named, has known Dicker for 22 years, since he was 14, because he went to school with one of her sons.

She says he is like a surrogate son, and he calls her mum while she refers to him as son.

She said: "It's all right for the judge and the papers to say he's a killer because he did kill his mum, but nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.

"Yes, he was wrong and yes, he deserves to be punished, but he was just pushed to a limit with his mother.

"Nobody knows him how can people say he's an evil killer? He's not he's just a troubled man, very troubled."

On Monday, Dicker was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 13 years, after admitting killing his mother by beating her with a hammer and stamping on her face at their Craigfield Avenue home in Clacton on January 29, 2003.
