SHRIMPERS skipper Kevin Maher is sure his Southend United side can establish themselves in League One next season.

The Roots Hall outfit secured promotion by beating Lincoln City in the play-offs last month and the composed midfielder reckoned his team-mates were now hungry for further success.

"We worked so hard to get out of League Two and we certainly don't want to throw all that away by coming straight back down again," he said.

"Sure it's going to be tough and we will be up against some really good teams but we will certainly be giving it a real go.

"We want to win and I'm confident we will be able to hold our own - we all are."

Adding to Maher's belief is that the Seasiders' style of play should suit a division which is more renowned for its passing than the hustle and bustle of League Two.

"We like to get it down and play and we should have more chances to do that now," he said.

"It's a step up in quality but we're looking forward to that and I think it's going to suit us more than playing in League Two."

Meanwhile, Blues boss Steve Tilson has confirmed he is still continuing his search for a striker.

"There is nothing else to report at the moment," said Tilson, who has now returned from his holiday in Portugal.

"There have been no new developments but hopefully there will be soon."
