SOUTHEND United manager Steve Tilson and his assistant Paul Brush are both to be offered extended contracts to stay at Roots Hall.

The successful duo still have two years left to run on their current deals but Shrimpers surpremo Ron Martin is keen to secure their future.

And he will also hand player of the season Adam Barrett a longer contract.

"Steve and Paul work well together and have done a fantastic job for this football club," said Martin.

"Steve is away on holiday right now but when he gets back we will discuss offering both himself and Paul Brush new contracts."

Tilson took over at Roots Hall in November 2003, with the Seasiders struggling in 23rd place in the basement division.

But, having ensured Blues survived relegation that season, he guided them to promotion from League Two last time around, while also reaching the last two LDV Vans Trophy finals.

"Steve is obviously the manager and has been brilliant but so has Paul and he sometimes doesn't get the acknowledgements he deserves," added Martin.

"He's an able assistant and was a big part in our success last season."

Another element in the successful campaign was defender Adam Barrett, who enjoyed an amazing first season with his home town club, scoring 10 goals and winning a whole host of individual awards.

Martin said the former Bristol Rovers centre back would be offered an extended deal, although the length of the term has yet to be discussed with Barrett's agent.

"Adam is a very good player and someone we want to keep at the club," admitted Martin.
