THE annual charity day at Rochford Hundred raised a record-breaking £55,000.
In past years the NSPCC has been the chosen recipient, but this year the cash bonanza went to Great Ormond Street childrens' hospital.
The previous 15 years at Rochford has seen a massive total of £307,000 collected, but this latest event smashed all records.
Main organiser Ian Trenaman said afterwards: "What a fabulous day and how nice for such a huge sum to go to such a deserving cause.
"I doubt if there are many people who don't know some family who have benefited from the great work done at Great Ormond Street.
"I cannot think of a better way to raise money than by organising a golf day - it brings enjoyment to a lot of people and the end product is that a worthy charity reaps the benefit."
