POLICE have launched a manhunt after a 21-year-old Grays man, charged with raping a girl in a Purfleet hotel, failed to appear in court.

Aman Nabavy, of Hathaway Road, broke the conditions of his bail by failing to attend a plea and directions hearing at Southend Crown Court on Friday, June 10, sparking an automatic police search.

It is alleged that Nabavy lured a girl to the Concord Hotel, Stonehouse Lane on Sunday, March 20, under the pretence of interviewing her for a job at a pizza delivery company.

Nabavy, who moved to Grays from Afghanistan five years ago, was granted conditional bail at Basildon Crown Court on March 31. But, Nabavy's failure to appear at Southend Crown Court means that if caught he will return to custody.

Police say they are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry in their hunt for the 21-year-old.

DC Clive Day, of Ockendon CID, said: "I urge him to give himself up to police or for anyone with information on his current whereabouts to contact me at South Ockendon police station on 01708 852332."
