JAMIE Robinson is through to the quarter-finals of the World Team Cup - although he faces a tough task in the last eight showdown.

The Shoeburyness-based British number two partnered the country's top wheelchair tennis player, Jayant Mistry to a narrow win over the Slovakia in the first round of the cup.

That result confirmed their eighth place seeding in the 32-strong line-up, but now the GB team will play top seeds France in the quarters after the Gallic duo saw off Spain in the first round.

Robinson, the world number 35, got off to a bad start when he lost 7-6 6-2 to Slovakia's David Chabrecek, who is ranked 51 places below him.

But Mistry, who is ranked 12th, saw off world number 16 Joseph Felix 6-4 6-3 to level things before the doubles rubber.

Robinson and Mistry beat Chabrecek and Felix 6-1 6-4 to set up their date with the French.

Robinson warmed up for his debut appearance at the World Team Cup by competing at the Merwede Amsterdam Open.

The Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre coach was the only Briton at the Amsterdam event, which featured some of the world's top wheelchair players.

But Robinson crashed out in the first round after losing 6-2 to Dutchman Erik-Martihn Ruitenberg, who is ranked 137 in the world.
