A young man crushed between two lorries at a dockyard was today recovering in hospital.

Paramedics arrived at Deep Wharf off London Road, Purfleet, after receiving frantic calls about a man sandwiched between two large lorries.

They arrived to find the 25-year-old man suffering severe chest injuries.

One of the lorries had rolled backwards, pinning the man to the second lorry.

He was treated at the scene by an emergency care practitioner and the incident support unit manager from Essex Ambulance Service headquarters in Chelmsford.

He was then taken to Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford for treatment. An ambulance service spokesman said: "It could have been an awful lot worse."
