YOUNG West Ham star Anton Ferdinand is determined to prove himself as a top Premiership-class defender.

And the 20-year-old is desperate to do so at Upton Park following the Irons' return to the top-flight.

Reports of a £3million bid from European Champions Liverpool have done nothing to dampen his desire to wear the Claret and Blue shirt at the highest level.

"The Liverpool stuff is just talk at the moment," he said. "It means a lot to me to be with my club through the highs and lows.

"And now I am part of bringing them back to their high - it's sensational."

Playing in the Premiership will pit Anton against his older brother Rio for the first time.

Growing up in the shadow of the Manchester United and England star has been difficult at times, but having the world's most expensive defender in the family gives something to strive for.

"Having someone as a brother who is also a good defender helps me tremendously in my game," he added.

"One of my goals is to be better than the best. Maybe one day I will be better than him."
