Firefighters with breathing apparatus had to put out a blaze that ripped through a car repair workshop yesterday at just after 4pm.

Three fire engines were called to the scene at Ilfracombe Avenue, Bowers Gifford.

According to an Essex Fire and Rescue spokesman an area of 12 metres by six metres was alight.

He added: "Upon arrival it was apparent that the premises were fully alight.

The fire was extinguished using two main jets and two officers with breathing apparatus."
