Nicky Forster has become Ipswich Town's first of what could be a "number" of summer signings - according to chairman David Sheepshanks.

However, while the former Reading striker has joined ranks with the Blues, Tommy Miller is the third player to quit Portman Road.

Miller put pen to paper on a two-year deal with newly-promoted Sunderland yesterday, and joins former team-mate, goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, in the North East.

It has been the sale of Bedford-born Davis that has allowed Ipswich to open their purse-strings this summer with Forster - despite signing on a free transfer - hoping to become the first of a plethora of additions.

Sheepshanks said: "Joe Royle was extremely keen to secure him as an experienced and wily striker who can add an extra dimension to our team.

"Nicky is the first of a number of signings we hope to confirm over the coming days and weeks.
