TEAMS still have a chance to enter Colchester’s third annual Charity Jailbreak.

Competitors become “fugitives” from Colchester Castle and then battle to see who can get the furthest from the town in 24 hours without spending money or calling on friends and family for lifts.

Previous entrants ended up as far away as Oslo and Rome.

Prizes are on offer for furthest distance travelled, the most unusual destination and the best fancy dress.

For anyone who cannot spare 24 hours there is an eight-hour challenge as well.

The event will raise money through sponsorship for the Essex Air Ambulance, Autism Anglia and the Essex Wildlife Trust.

Claire Rodie, from Autism Anglia, said: “We are looking for resourceful and imaginative people to sign up and start planning their escape. Having a best fancy dress category will certainly bring a sense of fun to the event.”

Nezda Leigh, from the air ambulance, said: “We are looking for as many people as possible to register and get sponsored to take part.

“It promises to be another great weekend and a chance for supporters to raise vital funds for one of three very worthwhile causes.”

John Hall, from Essex Wildlife Trust, said: “This is a fantastic event that continues to raise vital funds for all the charities involved.”

The event is being launched by the mayor and mayoress of Colchester on Saturday, April 17, with fugitives breaking out at 10am.
