PUPILS travelled the world without leaving their classroom during Friars Grove Infant School’s book week.

The four to seven-year-olds at the school, in Upland Drive, Colchester, dressed as people or animals from other countries, or characters from works of fiction, as part of the World in Our School event.

Alice in Wonderland was a particular favourite, while cowboy costumes proved a hit with the boys.

English teacher Julie Godfrey, who organised the event, said: “The children had an interesting and entertaining week and everybody in the school has learned something new.

“I want to thank the parents who supported the week, and staff who worked very hard to make the activities meaningful and exciting.”

Teachers and parents told stories from different countries and pupils made chapatis, puppets, and Chinese dragons.

A book fair was held, where children could spend book vouchers.

Youngsters at Harwich Community Primary School swapped their school uniforms for costumes to celebrate their favourite books, during an event at their school.

Princesses and Spiderman were among the characters.

Children also wrote a class story together and acted out their favourite tales.

Marie-Claire Balaram, reception class teacher, said: “The children had a lovely time, bringing their favourite books to life.”
