COLCHESTER MP Bob Russell will today meet Education Minister Vernon Coaker over plans to close two schools in the town.
The Lib Dem is campaigning against Essex County Council’s plans to close Thomas Lord Audley and Alderman Blaxill schools, both in the south of Colchester.
As part of a £130 million overhaul, County Hall plans to close the two schools, turn Sir Charles Lucas Arts College into an academy and expand other secondary schools in Colchester.
Mr Russell and Mr Coaker will be joined this afternoon at the Department for Children, Schools and Families by Monkwick parent Joe Slatter.
Mr Slatter has carried out research on the rising number of children being born in Colchester, which he believes means the changes will mean there are not enough secondary education places in the borough.
